After dropping a warm-up game against Port Aransas, the Aransas Pass High School varsity Panther baseball team took their bi-district game the full three games in the series, before winning10-0 over the Jourdanton Indians, to advance to area.

The Panthers will now face the Banquete Bulldogs in a three-game area series beginning Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at Tulsa Midway. The second game will be played Saturday, May 11, at noon also at Tuloso Midway. If a third game is necessary, if will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second game.

Warm up game

Facing the Port Aransas Marlins Tuesday, April 30, the Panthers stayed in it until the end, but the Marlins pulled away late in a 2-1 victory.

Aransas Pass opened up scoring in the first inning after Brendon Burns drew a walk, scoring one run.

Port Aransas evened things up at one in the top of the sixth inning. The game was tied at one with Port Aransas batting in the top of the seventh when a Marlin grounded out, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides as Port Aransas pitchers struck out eight, and the Panthers struck out nine.

Will Arrington was on the pitcher’s mound for Panthers. He surrendered no runs and no hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Dylan Cole pitched two, giving up on run on two hits, striking out four, and walking one. Dylan Samora, contributed two innings, striking out two; and Christian Adame pitched on inning.

Samora led the Panthers with two hits in three at bats. Jonathan Falcon went 1 for 2; Burns and Tyler Murphy were each 1 for 3; and Weston Pole went 1 for 4.

The Panthers stole eight bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Samora led the way with three.

Friday bi-district matchup

Aransas Pass began its three-game series against Jourdanton, Friday, May 3, and stumbled with a 10-0 loss, as they gave up 10 runs.

A single by Dylan Cole in the second inning was the one hit for the Panthers, as he went 1 for 2 on the night.

Alex Gomez took the loss for Panthers. He went three innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one. Arrington pitched 1.1 innings, giving up four runs on two hits, and striking out one. Adame contributed one inning, allowing one run on three hits, and striking out one.

Saturday matchups

Playing at home Saturday, the Panthers stayed alive in the series with an 8-3 victory over the Indians.

Jourdanton got things started with two runs in the first inning. Aransas Pass answered with one in the bottom of the third, but then pulled away for good with six runs in the fourth inning. In that inning, an error scored one run as Dylan Cole was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Alex Gomez drew a walk, scoring one run, and Marcus Ortiz singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

Tyler Murphy went 2-for-3 at the plate; Marcus Ortiz was 1 for 1; and Falcon went 1 for 3.

Dylan Samora took the win for Panthers. He allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out five, and walking three.

The Panthers didn’t commit a single error; and Ortiz made the most plays with ten.

After a 30-minute break, the Panthers and Indians squared off again, with the hosts taking the dominating win, 10-0.

Arrington pitched the full game, allowing no runs, while striking out three, and walking three.

Aransas Pass scored five runs in the bottom of the second, as well as five in the fourth inning led by singles from Murphy and Arrington, a walk by Ortiz, and an error on a ball put in play by Cole.

The Panthers racked up eight hits on the day. Arrington and Murphy each went 2 for 3 at the plate. Arrington contributed three RBIs; and Murphy had two. Others getting hits are: Samora - 1 for 3; Pope - 1 for 4; Ortiz - 1 for 1, one RBI; and Alex Gomez - 1 for 3.
