Concussion Medical Clearance
If the athlete is suspected of having a concussion, they will be pulled from all same day activity and referred to a physician. Any athletic participation (on or off field) will be stopped until medical clearance documentation is provided. Once a diagnosis is confirmed, the athlete will need clearance to begin the Return To Play (RTP) concussion protocol.
Medical clearance from physician MUST STATE THE FOLLOWING:
If concussion is CONFIRMED AND DIAGNOSED: Patient is CLEARED TO BEGIN RETURN TO PLAY CONCUSSION PROTOCOL.
-The physician may want the athlete to return for a 2nd evaluation before providing Return To Play clearance.
-If athlete still has concussion symptoms, they may not begin Return To Play protocol until 24 hours symptom free.
If NO concussion is diagnosed: Patient is CLEARED for FULL ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION IMMEDIATELY.
Medical clearance documents that do not include one of the above lines may need to return to physician for further medical clearance.
